I don't want to advertise that much, but you probably already heard of S4 Xero, offering fair and free to play alternative with tons of bug fixes and technical improvements. Milking or not, the game had no future in their hands.įollow up question: Is S4 League really dead? Also, it's very likely that they went for some easy cash grabs to eventually get out of the red numbers. My guess would be the underestimated the costs and work it needed, after all the Korean developers left the game in a quite a messy state. There is no denying that the wanted to profit from it, that's how business works. The real intention behind their plans is unknown. What happened afterwards with Aeria Games was just a poor attempt to save the game or at least make some more money with it. Only thanks to the raw potential and uniqueness of S4 League, the game was able to survive that long. A game with such a system had no chance to grew old, limiting the lifespan, missing the chance to hop on the " cosmetics only" hype train. In my honest opinion, the game was already doomed to fail when AP stats got introduced, which was the start of the " free to play / pay to win " payment model. Now let's answer the question: Who killed S4 League? From 2019 up to know Aeria Games attempted to apply some fixes (ironically resulting in breaking more stuff than actually fixing). Neowiz obviously stopped the development before the decided to close down the version published in Korea. All content updates and bug fixes till April 2019 (First bugfix patch of Aeria Games) were done by Neowiz. Pentavision got disolved due to internal restructuring and rebranding, resulting in S4L being passed to GameOn Studio or lastly Neowizable Studio (all being part / acquisitions of Neowiz). Whereas Pentavision Entertainment got acquired by Neowiz before the development of S4 League. They only got handed to other departments after several acquisitions: Alaplaya (part of SAT1/ProSieben Games) got acquired by Aeria Games, which got acquired by gamigo. Publisher and developer were always the same companies. With the end of the contract all rights go back to Neowiz. After S4 League Korea closed in 2018, they updated their license contract with Aeria Games adding additional development rights (beside publishing the game) to create new content. Trademark and intellectual property of S4 League was always owned by Neowiz. I agree with the overall sentiment but there are too many things which got messed up, so I decided to get some facts straight: (Copy-Pasting my comment I made on the separate post with the same text as the comment above, just to reduce false information)
